If you are going to enjoy our local water ways get jackets and wear them. I don't know if the man last night would have differently been safe if he had one. But I bet it would have gave him a better chance when his boat tipped over in the Black River. Boats small and big are tricky at best. Why make the danger bigger by not wearing a life vest? Sorry the man is gone. Thank God the lady made it. The River is dangerous this time of year, really almost all year round. Anyone would be better off stacking the cards in their favor.
