It does keep other people's crap off you. But there just isn't enough of any germs on the cover to hurt you anyway. So it's more a comfort thing than a safety issue. You could sit all day on the cover and catch nothing. BUT it did say that washing your hands with lots of soap is a must. Your ass picks up nothing. Your hands picks up many bad things. In many cases your hands are the bad guys in getting sick. Hey who knew?
